I was very glad to get yr letter informing me that you arrived home safely. You
must be very careful & not expose yourself now. Keep up a good stock of
health if you wish for any enjoyment in living. I have had a little ill- turn
the past week, did not go out for a day or two, but have got well over it now.
We have beautiful weather. The measles have got into my reg’t, shall be a good
deal bothered with them probably now. I wish soldiers had attended to the
measles in their proper time.
There was a battle within hearing of
us yesterday but we have not yet heard from it. We were got ready to move. I
think we shall be sent somewhere soon. I have a very pleasant camp here, but the
water is not first rate. I had a letter fr Mr. Tripp a day or two ago, he was
revelling in Cider fruit & cigars. Says [] would not let him come
out again. wants to very much. Asked when you were coming. You will have
considerable start of Mrs. A. wonder if their’s is by mistake. We had quite a
time here Christmas day, but I was not very well myself. My Reg’t will have to
go to Bull Run again.
next Thursday. I wish I could be with you new
years my love. I think you are the very best of wives my darling & I want to
live with you very much indeed. How dreadful shamed you seem to be all at once
about being big. You know you [trying] to “foolish’ me. I wont
write much of a letter but will write again soon.

movement going on
I received your letter to night a real good long
one. I thank you my love for such good long letters. I hope we shall be in a
home to-gether before another Christmas. I dont want that Rice boy for a
servant, my darling but am glad you have confidence enough in me not to object.
I thought you would be ashamed. You know my darling that I love my own wife
& that is enough. Dont be foolish any more. Good night my love Kiss me
