Wheelock G. Veazey to Julia A. Veazey
Primary tabs
I rec’d a splendid letter from you to-day, the first for several days. I began to
worry. I have not written to you since last Sunday- have very busy this week
past. We went up towards Richmond two days & it’s been very hot. I have not
felt very well part of the time but do now. We start again to-morrow for some
unknown whereabouts, I had rather campaign in winter than summer, especially in
such climate as this. My own sweet angel I adore you you What a splendid wife
you are. I’ve been reading the Gypsy’s Prophecy to day, & Constance reminds
me of you so much, I know my angel how dearly & devotedly you love me &
that you would forever cling tome . What a treasure is such a wife to a man.
There are but few such. My sweet love I do wish
I could see you. I
hope I can soon yet I cannot tell when. Much work must be done soon. How dearly
I love you my own darling wife. Am so glad you are so well, but sorry to her of
Father’s continued illness but I think he will get better soon Be very careful
of yr health. O I shall so glad to get home to you & live quietly with you.
I sometimes think I shall not go into public life again. A comfortable home
seems the most desirable thing to me now, after all the hardships. I send you a
receipt for $746.20, which you must keep carefully. Don’t let anyone know you
have got it. I can borrow money enough here to use, & have done so, &
this is safely deposited & can be drawn at any time. Write often, direct to
3rd Vt Reg’t not as P. Marshal Good night my sweet angel.
Love Your fond & faithful husband.Wheelock
