Joseph Spafford to Mary Jane Spafford
Primary tabs
I write you a line again this morning so that you may know that we are still all
right & well. Here we are (the Potomac Army) encamped & waiting further
orders, tho’ our Brigade will not take orders from any one but a few days
longer. Lee has crossed the river again into Va. & is probarbly by this time
some distance from here. We ought to have finished him here, but as we have not I suppose they will still follow him, but
know nothing about it any way. We all expect to move to
day, in what direction I’m sure I cant tell
We may cross here, or at Harpers Ferry, or even go to Washington which case
we should probarbly bid them good
bye there. We dont stand a great of
chance of getting another hack at the rebs. The boys are all feeling very
well.
I will write no more this morning. Love to Father, Mother & much of the same to yourself.
I have recd no mail since we were at South Mt.
Your Aff. Brother Joseph Spafford
P.S. Geo. is well.
