I wrote you a letter yesterday & directed it to Charlestown but for fear that
you may have left there I will write a line & direct to Bradford. You will
see by this as you have probably learned before that we have moved at last. We
left camp at Wolf Run the morning of May 2d. & camped here the same night. I
remained with eight Cos. of the Regt. at this place, Maj. Kingsley had two at
Catlet's Station & Col. Blunt returned to Union Mills the first night. We
had a little excitement the next morning of which I have written the particulars
in my other letter. I am pretty well tho' it is pretty hot. I have a floor to my
tent & am as comfortabl as can be. Nelson is not well yet but I hope will
not have a fever. Contrabands are coming in here all the time. They & the
white refugees all tell the same
story about Hooker's Army - that it
is advancing victoriously. We are under marching orders again but whether we
shall more or not I dont know. The rest of the brigade will probably come down
here with us. There is no infantry within thirtytwenty-one miles of us unless Hooker is nearer. There
has been a great deal of fighting going on in the direction of Fredericksburgh.
We hear the cannonading night & day. Every thing looks favorable for our
side & I hope we shall do something.
The train is now coming & I shall have to close, for they dont dare to stay here long for fear the track may be torn up or something of the kind.
