I now take this oppertunity to let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same bless- ing
I suppose you have herd something of where we have been and the
Battle at Antetam we had a pretty hard time there my Co
numberd from 40 to 50 when we went in and there was ½ of
them killed and wounded but I did not get a scratch although
they wer falling on all sides of me But the sight on South
Mt It was awfull to behold we had but
vary few
killed there but the Rebels loss was large the ground was
covered with them and they lay top of one other their
clothing was vary poor and vary few had blankets at that
time they burnt their dead at Antetam in straw stacks and
old buildings It was 12 weeks ago last sunday that we left
Fredricks Burg we have marched about 1 hundred miles and are
here again there is lots of Rebels here now their pickets
are on one side of the river and ours on the other so near
that they can talk to one other we expect a battle soon the
rebels have been throwing up entrenchments just before sun
down we can see the guns shine it is pretty Cold here
freezes some
Nights things are pretty high here
flour 20 dollors pr barrel Butter 50 to 60 cts Pr pound
apples 25 cts pr dozen about as large as hens eggs cheese 25
to 30 cts pr lb potatoes 4 dollars pr bushel I saw Theodore
sunday he is well and Call Stratton they are both well I can
not think of any more at presant I have not herd from home
in a long time So good by for this time write soon and

PS Theadore was over here last night just before dark he received a letter the night before from James Almira Aunt Phebe Mom they wer all well at that time I received a letter from Crown Point last night Stating that Miss Francis Woster was dead and Jenny Fuller
Ade Lach had his hous burnt about 4 weeks ago
