John Lester Barstow to Laura
Primary tabs
I received your Letter with Freddie Ambrotype this morning, and I
am sure I never was more pleased to get a Letter in my life,
(and as the mail close soon for New Orleans I thought I ould
write a few lines although it is but a short time since I
wrote, and have nothing new to write, I am glad to see
Fredding looking so well & so smart, his progress in
reading is certainly uncommon, [ ] We shall be together "when this
cruel war is over") We have heard that Col. Thomas was to
leave home with the men for the Regiment on the 20th of this month & we shall
look for him soon. I have watched for him with great anxiety
& shall be glad to see him. I had my likeness taken for
you a few days ago at a cheap army shop the only one about
here. I hope that as soon as you feel like it you will get a
good Photograph of yourself & Freddie & send one of
each to me, & get 5 or six
or more taken you
know you will only have to sit once & then they take as
many as you want from the negative. I shall send another
Ambrotype of myself to Uncle George as I am going to write
to him soon. You say you received one
Draft from me
- I sent another a few days after, please say whether you got that, or not. I believe I will not send any more to you, for fear it will make you to much trouble to get them cashed. Kiss our dear boy for me & beleive me, my dear Laura with undiminshed love
Your most affectionate HusbandJ L Barstow
