I will write you a few hurried lines as we are about leaving for Newbern, We are all in a flurry and packing up to get ready for the transport which we expect every hour. Lt. Jewett is going to stop at Ft Monroe and get leave to go to Vermont to see his Father and I think I will let Lester go with him I hardly think it best for him to go to Newbern it is getting much farther away and there is but little for him to do. he thinks he had better go too and I presume he will stop at Danby on his way. perhaps he will get a chance to go from the Ft with the Vt sick as nurse but I will furnish him with sufficient money to take him through all right. Col R- is now with us. Every thing goes on as usual. sick are improving some I shall get H. Meigs a furlough as soon as possible and let him go home I will write again as soon as possible.
Affly Your Hussy Val
