Once more I seat my- self to write you as it is Sunday and but little is being
done I have just got through with inspection and have cut out two small
photographs for you which I will enclose, you can keep the one that suits you
best and give the other to who you choose I will also put one of my other ones
in for Sister Martha and you can hand it to her and allthough they are cheap and
small I like them about as well as the larger ones I had 48 of them taken and
will send more of them if you wish. I had a letter from you night before last
and was glad
to hear from you as it was about a week that I had not
had a letter but I was sorry to hear of Fred’s having such a severe cold and I
hope before you write again he will be entirely recovered and that they both
will continue in good health as well as yourself. I wrote to Silas a day or two
since and sent a Ph--h to Aunt Sophia I wrote to George also but it was before I
had them taken. I sent one to Lee. Lieut Sherman is now here and sits and one
end of the table writing and Jewett is taking a snooze in the bunk. Sartwell is
with us as well but cant tell how long we shall keep him. Meigs is as tough as a
knot also Belrose Meigs & Sartwell will go home the 1st of next month if I
can succeed in getting a Furlough
for them and I think I can I
believe they can get carried for about half what it cost me if a number go at
once and there will probably be others to go at that time as it is just after
muster day. We expect Col. Andrus here evry day and as soon as he arrives Col.
Stannard is going home, his health is not very good and will probably stay at
home some time and recruit up a little bit before he returns to us The Chicago
Papers state that our Reg. are to sent East soon but does not say when I dont
know where they get their information but I have hear from pretty good authority
that we are to be exchanged ere long and sent to Washington but I dont expect it
till we start. I am at work fixing up my room and will have it as nice as a
fiddle and presume will have to leave shortly
after as that is
generally the case. I am glad you get a chance occasionally to get a ride even
if you are obliged to ride with Albert B- and advise you to always accept such
chances as they will [conduce] to your pleasure and health also
I think you would be much healthyer if you could be out more and get exercise in
the open air, and if you have to keep Hat from school occasionally it is no
killing matter if by so doing you can insure to yourself better health and
pleasure. I have been invited to spend Christmas at Mrs. Snows and when there I
will try and get Sarahs photograph for you I would like much to spend Christmas
and New Years at home with my beloved little family but as we are separated we
must look forward and hope for happier times to come. I am glad to hear that
Carrie is getting to be so much help to you, box her ears for me also Fred’s and
write how you prosper after getting the money
Truly your aff Hus Val.
