I recd your letter yesterday and as to day is Sunday I will answer it I have just
returned from Church and finished my Dinner which was composed of baked beans,
bread & Butter raw eggs & cold boiled ham. You will perceived that we do
not mean to starve here also that my apetite is improving I have not felt so
well for a long time as I do now and I begin to think that I am going to stand
this life well, We have got our tent fixed up very comfortable and we eat drink,
sleep nearly as pleasantly as we could at a Five dollar Hotel. We have been very
busy for a few days past in
distributing clothing to the men and you
cant imagine what a pile of stuff it takes to fit out a company ready for
service. We have not got through yet and I think it will take us till the last
part of the week to get finished up but we have got pleanty of time to do those
things as we are the only company here yet though we expect the Rut. Co. here
Tuesday and two more before the week is out I am afraid that I shall not be able
to get my full uniform before I go home but they are under way but the trouble
is to find out the Stile of Hat & trimmings we are a going to wear. We
expect Col. Stannard here in a day or two and then I shall know all about those
things.
I think I shall go home buy the way of Rut. & call at
Danby but I dont think this Regt will be ready to leave the State before one
month so I will have a pleanty of time to be at home if I dont go till next week
or the latter part of this. You may tell Cad & Fred that their wants shall
be supplied soon. Kiss them and hug them for me I will write you again in a few
days and tell you more definitely as to going home I hope you will get along
well and come to the conclusion that all is for the best.
Yours Aff. HusbandV.G. Barney
