Letter from HIRAM POWERS to GEORGE PERKINS MARSH, dated July 6, 1866.
Primary tabs
My Dear friend Marsh
I sent a note to you day before yesterday to ask if you had already sent off your letter in regard to the subject of our last conversation--and to say--that if you had not, I had concluded to modify the terms for a statue from our state for the Capitol of the United States --
I intimated--that in order not to appear insensible to the kindness expressed, I
would abate as much as I reasonably could and say $8000 for such a statue on
shipboard at Leghorn--but I left it to your better judgment to advise whether or not
I should say in currency or Sterling money --
I have not yet heard from you on the subject
nor have I written home about it --
Pray let me know by the bearer of this if convenient. If you have written--and--if it would be worth while to make such an offer --
I trust that Mrs Marsh is better--and hope that you have improved since going to Monti Catini -
Yours most sincerely,
.
