Dear Sir --

On my return from Boston this evening, I found yours of the 15 inst. & I hasten to reply -- While in the city I called on Mr Bufford who made the perspectives & he expressed a very confident opinion that it represents the cupola as standing back over the center of the pediments, just where Mr. Richards proposed to place it -- Of this he would not be , but assured me he [...] ascertain if it was so drawn & inform me about it -- When I hear from him in relation to it, I will apprise you of his conclusions --

Yours in hasteT. E Powers

Hon Geo. P. Marsh

References in this letter:

John Henry Bufford, (1810-1870), was a distinguished lithographer and publisher of the period. At the time of the reconstruction of the State House, Bufford worked in Boston where he published Silloway's drawings and plans for the Vermont State House.

Joseph R. Richards was the architect who replaced Thomas W. Silloway in early 1858, when Silloway resigned from the position.

Dr. Thomas E. Powers, (1808-1876), of Woodstock, Vermont, was appointed by Governor Fletcher to be the Superintendent of Construction of the 1858-1860 project, to build a new State House in Montpelier to rebuild the structure burned in 1857. He and the architect, Thomas W. Silloway, were soon at loggerheads over their roles in the project. Powers became State Senator in 1861.
