Letter from GEORGE PERKINS MARSH to JACOB COLLAMER, dated September 14, 1848.

Dear Sir
Our county consists of fifteen towns. We have the two senators, Burlington, Colchester, Hinesburgh, Milton and St George; Richmond doubtful. Mr Peck is taking all proper measures, and counts on one Senator (Ferguson of Huntington) and the Rep's from Burlington, Colchester, Hinesburgh & St George, five in all. The other Senator, (Dr Hamilton of Jericho), and Mr Whittemore of Milton, he thinks will be against you. Upon the Richmond member, who was elected as a whig, but is claimed by the Freesoilers, no calculation can be made.
I hope you will accept my
proposal for an , in which case you
will visit this part of the state when you please, & I will go to your counties
in the latter part of October & November.
If you can bring any influence to bear on Mr Weston of this town, I hope you will not fail to do so, but great caution must be used in approaching him
I am more confirmed in the importance of having the next trial on the day of the Presidential election, & , & hope you will bestow a little thought on the subject.
Yours trulyGeo. P. Marsh
