My Dear Sir: Your favor of
the 11 inst came while I was away
from home and since my return
I have been so unwell as to feel
obliged to neglect my correspondence.
But your idea is a good one
and I hope you may be able
to carry it out. At present I shall
be unable to lock hands with you
in the enterprise. I may say to
you (confidentially) that members

of my
father's
family have met with
misfortune and just now they
have no one to lean upon but
me. They are calls that my
heart cannot refuse.
Still, it has been my purpose
to do something to educate one
of my nephews at the Vt. U.
& State ag. Coll. but the party
is not yet old enough and
if he was, just now, I am
not in a condition to render
the aid that will be necessary.
I perceive they have a
new President at Northfield, and
am not aware whether there
