Strafford, Vt. July 10th, 1893
Dear Sir:
Your favor of the 7th inst has been
received. On paper my chief labor is always
to convey my meaning clearly. My hand-
writing is not what it was in younger days,
but at 83 not much will be expected. Such
as it is the boys shall have
the address
in due time.
I want to keep it until I change some words of
a single sentence.
I have heard from Gov. Fuller. He does
not leave me utterly without hope and

says "in regard to the U.V.M. I quite agree
with you as to the needs of the University.
--I will bear it in mind."
Replying to this and other matter of the
Gov. to-day I have said to him as follows:
"I shall only "keep it in mind", that I
rather have you mar the honor of the name
of the "Military Hall" than any other Vermonter,
and I have confidence that you can plan
and build it better, as well as at less cost, than
any man in the State".
After this effort do not, I pray, ever ask
me to go begging again.

boys, and you will have him
as soon as he can prepare himself.
