Dear President:
Rankin, Poland's son-in-
law was at Whiting, to see Douglas, on
Friday last, then to Pittsford to see H.
F. Lathrop and was to return by Middle-
bury, having sent a man to Henry Lane
of Cornwall, all for the purpose of
preparing for a thunderbolt to be landed
by Poland against the college and
he promises to make a raid by which
the funds shall be removed and devoted
to the benefit of the farmers, as our
investigation will show they are not now.

This is his last card by which he hopes
to win a seat in the U.S. Senate.
I fear he will make you a good
deal of trouble and you should at
once place the data in the hands
of parties in each House who will
be able and willing to make a
gallant defence.
As to myself it may possibly
injure me some, but the life or services
of an individual are of little impor-
tance compared wth an Institution
which may be expected to live
for ages.
My friends, when I was at M.
last week assured me that Judge

P. could not command one third
of the members in either house, but
he evidently does not mean to give
it up.
