I recd your letter a day or two since and will answer it today as I dont know when I shall find time again. I have been very much disapointed in not seeing you in Vt. before this time. If you do not come immediately, now I dont know when I shall see you again. I have enlisted, as also has Az & George Clark. I hope you may conclude to come home at once. George S is expecting

the appointment of Asst. Surgeon in one of the Regts & will probarbly get it. Peabody, the fellow that was with me in N.Y. has enlisted, so has John Knights &c. &c. so you see we are all going to war.


I am visiting at W. shall go home to night. You spoke of a Lizzie that you used to know. What put that question in your head? I think I can guess. Thereby hangs a tale but I will not speak of it now. – I wish this damned war was ended, so that we might be doing something besides cutting each others throats, but as all the rest are going I cannot stay at

home alone. –


I hope if you cannot come home you will write me immediately. My respects to Ed and Mr. Thomas’ folks. I will close as (as John Whitaker said when he had the bull hitched to him) I’m in a hell of a hurry.
