Statue of Ethan Allen.
MR. LARKIN G. MEAD, JR.,
A promising artist of
Brattleboro Vermont, has proposed to the subscribers to execute a statue of
ETHAN ALLEN.
to be placed, upon the monumental column erected over the ramains
of that distinguished man by the State of Vermont, and has submitted to us a design
for the work which is entirely satisfactory to us, and has been very generally
approved by all persons of taste to whom it has been exhibited.
The model is completed in plaster, and is of the intended proportions of the statue, the figure being eight feet in height, which is thought a proper size to surmount a column forty two feet high. -- The execution of the statue depends upon the question, whether a sufficient sum to defray the necessary cost can be raised by voluntary contribution, and we now repeat the appeal already made to the patriotism and liberality of our fellow-citizens for the promotion of that object.
The name of each subscriber to be deposited in a leaden box under the base of the Statue. --
