My Dear Sir:
It is stated in Daily Journal that
Mr Ballard's bill includes $20,000 for a Milit-
ry Hall and Gymnasium, to be called after
my name. They have a large building at the
Cornell Uni. named the "Morrill Hall"
but if some generous Vermonter would donate the
$20,000 additional, which you ought to have, I
would greatly prefer that the Hall should wear
his name instead of mine in Burlington. I
hoped Le Grand Cannon, Gen. Wells or some other
large-hearted man would tender timely aid.

I have just found a copy of the re-
marks made by Prest. White at Cornell
and, discounting all of his personal flattery,
I see that he states the care of the Ag-
ricultural Colleges so well that I thought
I would send it to you.
Very truly yours
Justin S. Morrill
Prest. M. H. Buckham,
Burlington, Vt.
