Note the work of the power grader along the gutter line where the blade has removed the materials for the full depth of the thickness of the gutter. Power grader can be seen in the distance as well as the asphalt distributor used in applying the water. The tractor and heavy duty double 8 inch disc harrow shown in the foreground did a very satisfactory job in mixing. Work by Burlington Street Dept. Undated but may be 1942.

This view of Staniford Road at the intersection of North Ave. shows the completed pavement after it had gone through one winter season and the armor coat of asphalt emulsion, stone chips and washed concrete sand had been applied to the surface approximately 1/2 inch in thickness. The unit cost of this project was $.773 per square yard for the Soil-Cement pavement and $.094 per square yard for the Armor-Coat, making a total of $.867 per square yard for the completed project. The total length of this project was 1945 lineal feet and the width between gutters was 27 feet, making a total area of 5835 square yards for the entire project. Note the compaction under the weight of the rubber tires. In order to eliminate possible scaling or cleavage of materials where compaction takes place under the tires, the entire surface is scarified lightly with a spike-tooth harrow before final rolling.

This view shows the curb and gutter construction of Staniford Road near North Ave. looking westerly near the intersection of the proposed street leading into the George Reynolds property at No. 148 Staniford. The intersection can be seen between the two houses. Note the amount of filling necessary to bring the center of the roadway up to the proper grade. The work on the northerly side of the street was completed in Nov. 1941. A special appropriation of $4100.00 was made for the construction, $500.00 of which was for street grading.
