BY KERRY SLORA Brief but compelling, “Girl” is the seventh release from the Burlington-based alternative-pop group Chin Ho! The 7-song CD includes the new single “Scare Me These Days” and a new version of their 1998 hit “(I Wish I Was a) Girl.” With the sort of mellow guitar riffs characteristic of local groups like Phish and Stangefolk and the deep, methodic, Tragically Hip-esque vocals of front-man Andrew Smith, “Girl” will allow those unfamiliar with Chin Ho! to appreciate their appealing musical style and technique. Fans of Chin I-Io! may be disappointed at the length of“Girl,” but will be pleased by the familiar tinge of angst and emotion in the laid—back beats that have made them such a popular spectacle in clubs around the East and with acts like Jewel, J immie’s Chicken Shack and the Rustic Overtones. Chin Ho! recently began a six- week East Coast tour, and will soon embark on a national tour. Playwright, storyteller, performer -- and carpenter -- Marty Pottenger gives new meaning to the term “underground theater" with her Obie Award-winning theatrical tour-de-force about the largest public works project in history. The first shovel of dirt was turned for New York's 64-mile-long, 800-foot—deep water tunnel in 1970; the last check will be signed in 2025. Poetic and richly humor- ous, CWT #3 uses video projections of actual construction and the voices of real workers -- with accents Russian, Jamaican. Irish, and Polish —— to infuse a massive project with humanity and grace. Presented in association with the Northern New England Tradeswomen’s Conference. Sponsored by Media Support from W ' 1.
