March 2000 Out in the Mountains 9 . To Our Readers This issue of Out in the Mountains closes out the two—and-a-half year tenure of Don Eggert as Art Director. - ‘ Don originally assumed these duties as a volunteer, invariahly keeping the coolest head in the pro- duction room during seemingly endless, sometimes frantic eflhrts late into the night, as the paper was pulled together each month. After gaining some experience and the confidence that hrings, Don was instrumental in developing and implementing a full overhaul of the design of the paper in 1999, implementing improvements that have earned the paper nominations in the design category in national forums recognizing excellence in the gay press. Simply put, Don’s contributions have made Out in the Mountains a hetterpaper. just as good as Don has heen for Out in the Mountains, his tenure at Out in the Mountains has served him well, too. The Board of Mountain Pride Media recognizes Dons decision to move on as part of our continued success in helping to prepare volunteers and staflmemhersfir expanded roles in the joh market and as volunteers for other non—profit organizations. Don applied his on—the—joh training and the confidence he developed at Out in the Mountains in kick—starting a career in graphic design. A year ago, Dan opened his own design shop under the name Mayak Graphics, and today works in art direction for the Burlington-based paper Seven Days.
