Get Real is the acclaimed new British comedy about a gay teenager and his coming-out travails. The hero, 16- year-old Stephen Carter, tries to live the life of a normal teenager in suburban England, but is still in the closet. Reminiscent of the 1996 Beautiful Thing, this film inte- grates its gay theme into a larger portrait of high school students struggling with questions of status and sexuality. The film, which stars Ben Silverstone, -Brad Gorton, Charlotte Britain, and Stacy A. Hart, has been a great suc- cess on the festival circuit; last year’s Toronto Film Festival notes said, “Director Simon Shore and his cast of youngsters do a wonderful job of capturing the secret lives of his teenage characters.” Get Real will show at the Savoy Theater in Montpelier from Friday, July 23 through Thursday, July 29, at 6:30 & 8:45 each night. The Friday, July 23 shows will be a ben- efit for Outright Vermont. For more information, call 229-0598. V ‘ JULY.99 The Savoy Gets Real for Outright Vermont
