The Loeb Leopold murder in 1924 was the Menedez brothers of the times. A nation was horrified as it was revealed two lovers killed a child for the sheer sake of pulling off the perfect crime. The association of homosexuality with homicide has persisted ever since. The film Hope was loosely based on the murder, with the two protagonists sharing an apartment and an extremely ambiguous relationship; a good example of how Hollywood would more easily explore murder than it would same sex love. The Theater Factory takes on a stage production of Hopeon the 50th anniversary of the films release.
