Alas, the Rubber Rose manager Miss Adrian (Angie Dickinson) has her hands full, battling a crew of ornery cowgirls who aim to overthrow the patriarchy and restore the ranch, its clients, and herds to the natural state of equilibrium of cowgirls.and nature. One of the pleasures of the film is watching best friends Mike (Phoenix) and Scott (Keanu Reeves) cavort through Idaho, to Seattle, to Portland and back again, a pair of cool cats gay—coded in leather and grunge. Scott, ostensibly straight, is nonetheless exceedingly tender with Mike, a narcoleptic prone to sudden slumber at inopportune moments. DRAG QUEENS ARE HABIT FORMING by Bob Bolyard If it includes The Sisters LeMay, Yolanda, Macy Ann Goldberg and Venus Botticelli, it’s GOT to be Nunsense! Yes, five of Burlington’s most outrageous drag performers are donning habits to produce the smash musical about the Little Sisters of Hoboken. The plot (if there needs to be one) of this musical is that these five nuns, who started their ministry in a leper colony (because “all the good causes were taken”), are the only survivors of a catastrophe. Some 52 sisters of their order have died because of a batch of tainted vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia, “Child of God.” They had money enough to only bury 48; the other four are now ensconced in the freezer awaiting a proper burial. The present performance is a fund-raiser for the benefit of the frozen blue nuns. With the health inspector at their heels, it is urgent that the freezer be relieved of its contents forthwith. This production is part of the first year event, the Growling PupTheatre Festival to be held at the Magic Hat Brewery at 180 Flynn Avenue inBurlington . The Growling Pup will run theatre presentations from June 26 through Labor Day, featuring many area theatre groups as well as two from Boston. The Open Stage Theatre ofBurlington is the local producer of Nunsense, one of the most produced musicals to hit the theatre stages in the past 10 years. 5,000 stagings in 26 languages have been produced, BUT, if you’ve seen it before, you’ve NEVER seen a production like this! The Sisters LeMay (Amber and Margaurite) were most recently featured performers at 135 Pearl’s Pride festivities as well as in the march and at the rally at Battery Park. They’ve been entertaining local audiences for several years with their outrageous banter, fun song selections and wild costumes. Yolanda, an accomplished song writer and performer, is seen regularly on The Cherie and Yolanda Show on Adelphia Cable Access television. Venus Botticelli is a regular performer at 135 Pearl’s Lipliner Show and Macy Ann Goldberg was crowned Miss Gay Vermont - 1974! Directing this production is Jerry Zimmennan, one of the most awarded and recognized directors, choreographers and performers by the Ohio Community Theatre Association. Craig Hilliard, regular accompanist for the Sisters LeMay is musical director and Syndi Zook of Open Stage is the producer. Performance dates are July 24, 25, 26, 30, 3], August 1,2, and 3.
