V Rainbow Business Association Develops Membership BURLINGTON —A group of about forty Burlington—area businesses have joined to form the Rainbow Business Association, a professional organization looking to boost networking and support among compa- nies owned by or friendly toward the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans- gendered communities. Ric Kasini Kadour developed the association after noticing the positive effects of similar groups in other parts of the country. Originally envisioned as the “Queer Business Association,” the group first met on August 15 at the Yellow Dog Restaurant in Winooski. Attendees of the luncheon had a chance to meet and exchange ideas with one another, and also offered input on the future of such an orga- nization in Burlington. A subsequent meeting on September 19 at Loretta’s in Essex Junc- tion attracted a number of new members to the group, which contin- _ ues to grow. Members of RBA~ expect the group to double in size within the coming year. Current members range from real estate bro- kers and legal professionals to restauranteurs and masseurs . The mission of the Rainbow Business Association is to promote and support gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered business own- ers and professionals and to serve those communities through ser- vice, philanthropy, and education. Scheduled monthly luncheons and meetings provide a forum to exchange ideas and to socialize and net- work with other business owners and professionals. The RBA held an informal get—together on October 24 at the Firehouse Gallery on Church Street as a way of introducing the group to the community at large. Upcoming projects of the RBA include ’a “Pink Pages” directory, which will serve as a resource for those looking to find gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered—friendly businesses. Members of the group have also offered professional support toward establishing a Burling- ton-based Community Center. The next fomial meeting of the group will take place at noon on Wednesday, November 13th, at the Yellow Dogin Winooski. Those planning to attend are asked to pay a $15 to cover the cost of the extensive luncheon buffet. For more information about RBA, contact Ric Kadour at 351-5335, Bill DeSautels at 862-1570, or Sheila Rawls at 865-0469.
