Out in the Mountains Editorial Six years ago this month, Out in the Mountains was founded. The founders felt there was a need for a some way to reach out to and communicate with les- bians, gays and bisexuals throughout the state. They discussed two ideas, a com- munity center or a newspaper. The feel- ing was that it wasn;'t possible at that time to do both and that a paper would reach more people and was a more re- alistic goal. The paper, OITM, is going strong, thanks to the work of a growing number of vol- unteers and the support of our com- munity. Now it is time to work on the second piece of that vision; a lesbian, gay, bi- sexual community center. The discussions and organizing for such a center in the. Burlington area are already under way. The working goal is to “pro- vide a safe, physical; space where gay, lesbian and bixseual people and their friends from the greater Burlington area can gather for socializing, networking, organizing, entertaining, and sharing in the affirmatin of our selves and our com. munity.” You may have heard people talking about it or may be reading about it for the first time here. Either way, we need your input, ideas, hopes and dreams. Deborah Laehman V CORRECTION The listing of legislators and their voting record on the Civil rights bill in the Jan- uary issue of OIT M contained an error. Representative Andrew Christiansen (East Montpelier, Plainfield, Marshfield, Cabot, Woodbury) is a sponsor of the anti-discrimination bill and has voted for it in the past. OITM regrets the ty- pographical error which indicated oth- erwise. We thank Representative Chris- tiansen for his continuing support.
