The group is a fully sanctioned member of both the A.B .C. and the W.I.B .C. The group maintains a current roster of seven three-bowler teams. Players meet weekly at the Aslro Bowl in White River Junction on Sunday mornings. The Gay/Lesbian groups meet twice a week in Burlington. The Gay Men’s Sobriety meeting is open to men only. It meets every Monday night at 8:00 p.m. at 30 Elmwood Ave, Burlington, VT(VerrnontC.A.R.E.S.build- ing). The Thursday night meeting (also at 8:00p.m.), which isopentomenandwomen, is conducted at St. Paul’ 5 Episcopal Church in Burlington. As in all AA meetings, each attendee’s anonymity is regarded with utmost impor- tance, allowing the focus to recovery from alcoholism exclusively. Men Alive! - One Man’s Journey by Barry Nelson I had left a marriage of 14 years in July three years ago, and I went to a man’s retreat weekend that October. At that week- end I was scared and in a great deal of pain. I felt as though my world had been turned upside down, and with the pain came fear, anxiety, and anger, all moving around in- side me. At Men Alive, I found a safe place to begin the process of expressing my feel- ings, something that many men have prob- lems with. I found men willing to listen to me and to share with me - not just theirpairr, but also their joy and love. I also really enjoyed playing touch football that week- end. In short, I started to make friends. These friendships have deepened over the past few years, and I have learned about intimacy between men and the power and strength that comes from having a commu- nity of close male friends. I have partici- pated in a number of events sponsored by the group. We have a “Fathers and Sons Weekend” camping trip every year, as well as a “Fathers and Daughters Weekend.” There was a men’s dance at City Hall and a Unitarian service run by the group. The poetry and drumming and music was sim- ply great. Some men even got together one weekend and invited their fathers to partici- pate in a unique fathers and sons event. It R7
