P-FLAG Seeks Stories “Some Special Kids are Killing Them- selves. You Can Help Stop It!" So begins an announcement distrib- uted by the Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (P-FLAG). The group is soliciting stories of young adults aged 16-24 who have attempted suicide. “By telling us your story," the group explains, “you will help us teach counselors, teachers, youth workers, and clergy how to help the kid you used to be." P-FLAG is collecting these stories as part of its “Respect All Youth" program, which was initiated with financial assis- tance from the United Thank Offering Fund of the Episcopal Church. Its principal func- tion will be to develop and furnish training materials to those who work with youth, according to Paulette Goodman, President of P-FLAG. The flyer outlines the following sce- nario: “You are 16 to 24 years old. You've attempted suicide. Even if you didn't know it then, you know now that it was about your sexual identity. You're willing to tell your story because you could help save another very special life." If you'd like to have your story in- cluded in this special effort to help gay and lesbian youth, send it to: “Respect All Youth," c/o P-FLAG, PO Box 27605, Washington DC 20038-7605.
