OITM Roundup: Continued from page 5 Unknown to Mr. Gay, another USAir flight experienced mechanical problems at the airport. The passengers of this other flight were being rerouted to various airplanes. A few were put on Mr. Gay’s flight, and anyone holding a “free” ticket was bumped. Airline officials, armed with a list of these freebee ticket holders, boarded the plane to remove the free ticket holders. Of course, our Mr. Gay was not sitting in his assigned seat, as you may remember. When the ticket agent approached the seat where Mr. Gay was supposed to be sitting, she asked a startled customer, “Are you gay?” The man shyly nodded that he was, at which point she demanded, “Then you have to get off the plane.” Our Mr. Gay, overhearing what the ticket agent had said, tried to clear up the situation. “You’ve got the wrong man,” he said. “I’m Gay!” This caused an angry third passenger to yell, “Hell, I’m gay too! They can kick us all off!” Confusion reigned as more and more passengers began yelling that USAir had no right to remove gays from their flights. As far as we know, they are still on the tarmac fighting it out. (Gayzette) Court rejects dildo case WASHINGTON, DC -- When the U.S. Supreme Court refused to look at one Texas case in November, the result left intact a law prohibiting the sale or use of dildos for vaginal insertion. The need for such a prohibition baffles many. “Encouraging single women to believe that they need a fake penis should be more comforting to men than knowing single women don’t need one at all,” said Beatrice Dohm, legal director for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. But the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the law, saying, “There is no fundamental right to use obscene devices” or to sell or “promote” them. The Texas dildo case was just one of almost 600 cases which the U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear thus far in the . first month of the current session, and one of three rejected which have some interest for gays. Many more are pending. This is remarkable and wonderfully ironic considering this district is in the home state of Jesse Helms. The 40-page plan will teach staff, students, and faculty that every individual and family (even gay families) should be respected and accepted [Adam and Eve, the mail-order sex shop, is located in Carborro.
