Out in the Mountains If Santa Claus Were Gay... A Queer List of Holiday Wishes Governor Dean: Will Santa deliver the Dems? Paul Olsen COLCHESTER/NORTH POLE -- As the holiday season approaches and the spirit of giving enters our hearts, I found myself developing a Christmas list for Vermont which I will be sending to the North Pole. If Santa were to take my advice, here is what he would deliver on the morning of December 25th. To those living with HIV/AIDS: a cure. To lesbian and gay parents: legislation protecting their rights as fathers and mothers. To the Vermont Legislature: a productive session that ends on time. To Bishop Kenneth Angell: the realization that lesbian and gay families are a threat to no one and that wearing a condom is preferable to getting AIDS. To Howard Dean: a Democratic majority in the State Senate. To Barbara Snelling: a claim to fame other than Dick Snelling. To 135 Pearl: paper towels for the men’s room, a discretionary door policy, and a new light for the pool table. (Just kidding!) To Vermont CARES Executive Director Kate Hill: the arrest and conviction of the arsonist(s). To James Jeffords: more articles about him in OITM. To the Vermont Coalition for Lesbian and Gay Rights: ever increasing membership. To State Representative Ricky Westman: courage. To lesbian and gay youth: role models, and freedom from physical and verbal abuse. (OITM photo by Kip Roberson) 135 Pearl: Maybe Santa will bring them one more new name? MICHAEL GIGAN T E, PH.D.
