December 1993 Karen Beth is Coming to Burlington Audrey Hoehne If one of your favorite pastimes in life is either being transported or getting your soul richly tended to, come see Karen Beth in concert on Friday, December 10th at Contois Auditorium. Karen’s 1989 release, To Each One of Us, her fifth in a long and varied career, remains one of Ladyslipper Catalog’s highly recommended recordings. She is also a long—standing favorite of Alix Dobkin. Centered, Personal, and ecstatic, her songwriting makes the much maligned accordion sound transcendental in rhythm. (She will also be bringing her guitar, synthesizer and banjo...p1us?) Strongly felt, whatever the topic, her lyrics reflect sincere introspection and the unaffected magnanimity of someone who honors life and loving, always seeking acceptance in the face of impermanence. A few of her most inspiring songs, with titles like “Womanspirit Rising”, and “Peace Unending”, possess repetitions in lyric and music that also entrance; the overall effect is a nuturing mysticism uniquely Karen Beth’s and not to be missed. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are $6-$10, available at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Burlington Women’s Council. For further information, please call 865-7200.
