Out in the Mountains (frompageone) responsibility to insure the protection of all of its citizens. She reaffirmed the dignity and respect that should be the right of all Vermonters. When she signed the bill into law, she spoke of how the Senate debate and final passage were among the most sig- nificant actions taken during that session. As Madeleine prepares to leave the fifth floor and the executive office, I would like to take this opportunity to publicly say "Goodbye and thank you." Thank you for your advocacy and support of Vemiont's lesbian, gay, and bisexual community. Thank you for welcoming our voices and acknowledging our contributions and worth as citizens. And thank you for giving us the respect and dignity that should be the right of all Vermonters. The Need for AIDS Information Dear OIT M , Today a friend in Chittenden County died of AIDS. He died earlier than he should have since he ignored doctor's or- ders of plenty of sleep, little to no alcohol, moderate exercise, proper nutrition, and stress management counseling and tech- niques. We had not talked much lately. The last time we spoke,he bragged about unsafe sex with one-night stands from Pearls, the Loop, and Montreal. Several "tricks" were married, both gay and straight. On a few %= ---------- -- occasions he told guys after unsafe sex that he had AIDS. Needless to say, our last conversation was heated. I applaud 01 TM for its efforts to edu- cate the public on ways to increase the body's resistance and immune system and ways to fight the onset of AIDS. Being "out in the mountains" does not isolate us from this illness. My now dead friend has proba- bly infected a dozen people in the area I can't grieve. I'm too angry.
