Labor Relations Board Hears UVM Case On Monday March 3rd the State Labor Relations Board held a hearing on the question of providing benefits to the domestic partners of University of Vermont employees. The case, which began over two years ago, has the support of the Faculty Grie- vance Committee of the University, though not the administra- tion. President Thomas Salmon and the administration have fought against providing benefits, arguing among other things that there are not the resources available to do so. The Labor Relations Board has no set time frame for making a decision. Whether they decide in favor or against providing ben- efits, that decision is expected to be appealed to the State Su- preme Court. A number of universities around the country do provide benefits for domestic partners of employees, including the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago. Harvard University has just started to consider the issue. V April 1993 PO Box 220 Hyde Park.
