Dear Sandy Northrop,

Iwas dismayed to receive the 10/26/88
letter from Debby Lewis rejecting, on di-
rection of her supervisor, presumably your-
self, my sponsorship of a day of program-
mg by your “gay and lesbian friends.”
She said you found this to “raise controver-
sial or divisive political, religious, moral or
other issues.”

Given this response, Ican see only one
point of controversy, that you might have
ANY gay or lesbian friends, once this be-
comes known in the community. If there is
any other point of controversy, I would
appreciate an explanation, and I am quite
serious that I do request a written reply and
explanation of this action. I do not consider
the fact that there are gay or lesbian indi-
viduals in Vermont to be controversial,
divisive, religious, political, moral, (or

, immoral), and I want to know why you do.

Perhaps upon reconsideration you will
agree that this sponsorship is appropriate,
and in that hope, I am enclosing my original
check for this purpose.

Your “sponsor for a day on VPR”
promotion seems intended to allow people
to commemorate people, events, birthdays,
etc. that they find significant and to make

rated. I want to send a simple greeting to
other gay and lesbian Vermonters that will
make them feel good when they hear it, and
possibly make them feel well disposed
towards WVPR, which, until the receipt of
Ms. Lewis’ letter, I had held in someregard.
As you can understand, at the moment I no
longer wish to have any association with
WVPR, and wish you to remove me as a
supporter, remove me from your mailing

list, stop sending me “North by Northeast” .

and , if possible, beam your signal away
from Marlboro.

Should you reconsider your position, I
might reconsider mine.

I also request that a copy of this corre-
spondence be placed in your FCC Public
Comment file, because I consider your
action to be discriminatory and to be
counter to the public interest.
