Page 2, Out in the Mountains Letters to the Editor Dear Editor: In an effort to establish a communication network between straight persons who are or have been partners of lesbians or gay persons, I am writing to request that you print the enclosed information in your publication "Out in the Mountains." One of my goals is to form a support group in Vermont to deal with some of the issues which tend to isolate us. I am also very interested in receiving as well as providing information about organizations which support straight spouses of lesbian or gay persons. Anyone who wishes to contact me should do so by writing to VPLG, Box 5, Court Street Marketplace, Middlebury, Vermont 05753. I would very much appreciate your support. Burlington.VT 05402" Dear Editor: Referring again to the medical establishment, I submit that there was one important editorial omission in my review of the film A Virus Respects No Morals (OITM Sept. 1987). The deleted sentence, "...As research laboratory for drug companies and psychiatrists", was perhaps tangential to the AIDS problem, but analogously relevant. If I had said "physicians" instead of "psychiatrists" everything would have been in order. Burton Rubenstein Because of very limited space, OITM regretfully cannot print poetry submissions. Letters to the Editor should be 200 words or less. Thank you. Membership has increased annually and GLBA is expecting a large and active membership this fall. Among the events planned for the upcoming semester include monthly dances, the next being held on Thursday, October 15 at 8:00, a foliage trip to Brattleboro, a coffeehouse for gay faculty and staff, and our biggest project will be to bring the alliance to the March on Washington. Our weekly meetings will be on Mondays, at 7:30 in the comfortable International Students Lounge at B-180 L/L. A new service being provided by GLBA to the UVM community this year will be a Gay Hotline. Hours of the hotline will be Tuesdays and Fridays 7Vp.m. - 9 p.m., beginning Friday, September 4. More hours will be added as the semester progresses. Our # is 658-0699. ' GLBA Starts Hotline With the intent of giving University of Vermont freshmen easy access to the campus gay community, the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Alliance at UVM started a telephone hotline service at the beginning of the fall semester. Although the initial response has been less than overwhelming, we’re hoping that with increased publicity through advertising and word of mouth that the hotline will become a valuable resource to gay people throughout the state. In anticipation of that day, the Alliance is trying to put together as extensive a list of resources as possible. In addition to organizations specifically for gay people, we need to ‘know names of lawyers, counselors, doctors, real estate agents, and anyone else you can think of who is receptive and familiar with gay clients. If there is anyone in your area that provides services that could be helpful to the gay community, please send their name, address, phone number, occupation and any other helpful information to: GLBA Billings Center, UVM Burlington, VT 05404 Your information could make someone’s life a lot easier.
