June 1986‘ - page .9 Domestic violence to be studied By Jim Morgan The Governor’s Commission on the status of women is currently conducting a statewide study regarding domestic violence. Ms. Kathy Johnson of the commission, has agreed to include in the study a question related to same-sex domestic violence, which will read “Of all domestic violence cases you see, what percentage occur between homosexuals?" This question will be asked of many service providers who have contact with abuse cases; such as: police, attorneys, and shelter workers. During the pre-test phase of the project, Kathy stated that the data collected suggests that same sex domestic violence is often treated as a simple assault. In late August, upon completion of the study, the Commission will be releasing their findings to NASW-LGIC-VT (National Association of Social Workers - Lesbian & Gay Issues Committee) and VLGR (Vermonters for Lesbian and Gay Rights). The data will hopefully be incorporated into VLGR’s proposed statewide study of discrimination and violence. nncueuuuonoonuonuunoneuuouono-nun-no-v - Out in the Mountains Subscriptions Subscriptions to ‘Out in _ IMountains' are available for $10; Eper year (I2 issues), $5 for low-; : income and unemployed people.
