E i l E F Max P. Martini’s Entertainment Shorts LA tones os Angeles based Tonehenge has released their first CD of he same name. Their name is derived from tone - tonus, a sound; and henge - ancient structure. They -classify themselves as “crossover, , electronic dance music, sweetened by vocals and strings, with Pop, World, and Rave influences.” Tonehenge is the brainchild of vocal- ist and cellist Mystic Pete (Peter Ludwig) and is co-produced by Atom Smith. The CD features the vocals of Ana Robles, Dawnia Carlson, Kinga Toth, and several others. This 16-track collection delivers an amazing array of sounds . and styles, including three dance remixes of “The One,” “1000 Nights,” and “You Are Mine” as well as a drum and bass mix of “Raver.” Just sampling the first 4 tracks (online at www.cdbaby.com/cd/tonehenge) immediately shows the amazing diversity of Tonehenge. The vocal- ists featured on this CD were well chosen and enhance the entire listen- ing experience. One disappointing note for this reviewer, however, was that Mystic Pete’s amazing cello playing wasn’t more prominently featured on more tracks. Peter Ludwig (a.k.a. Mystic Pete) has had an interesting musical career. He started playing cello in 3rd grade, and he studied as a trance medium in his teens, chan- neling extraordinary voices. He has I played in orchestras, accompanied poets such as Coleman Barks, and wailed at raves. His love of Trance, Dance and World music, and his mastery of improvisation led to the evolution of Tonehenge. Tonehenge hasbeen play- ing raves, parties and events for the last couple of years. With the elec- tronic scene moving toward live acts, Tonehenge’s compelling vocals; strings and catchy rhythms, com- bined with their dancers and Ma1'l;ini’5 Rtltillg Sc-ilez b O Martinis — “No need — it‘s that good!” 1 Martin~i— “What the hell — just one!” 2 Martinis — “Oh yeah — that’s better!” 3 Martinis — “You'll need ’em!” 4 Martinis — “Wake me up when it’s over!” _ imagery, could be at the edge of the next musical wave. Let’s hope we can catch them on tour soon. Max’s personal Martini Rating = 2 Martinis Bang The Drum While I Am Riding You! enre magazine called Kevin Aviance (born Eric Snead) “an entity” and now dance floors around the world will be bum- ing up with tracks from Kevin’s sec- ond album, Entity (Emerge Records). This CD is sexy, sassy, and alive. Kevin describes the CD as being . .about life’s experiences as citizens of the global society.” Max Martini says it is just hot with a cap- ital “H.” ' The NYC based Aviance, who first gained notoriety with his underground club hit “Cunty” which was a regular feature at Tunnel, recalls “. ..as it played, you’d see all the queens coming out of the dark- «ness, doing runway.” His first album Box of Chocolates was released in 1999. According to the artist, “My roots ‘are and will always be with the House of Aviance.” It was through the House of Aviance (similar to NYC’s House of Xtravaganzas) that Kevin gained entrance to the club scene, first as a promoter and later as a performer. Unfortunately for this reviewer we received only a sample CD, which included just five of the twelve tracks on the new recording. “Give It Up” is by far my favorite, with its sexy and racy lyrics and pulsing beat. “Alive” is already tak- ing the dance world by storm and is featured here. The gospel-infused “Power” is another favorite and shows a more mature and reflective side of Aviance. Luckily for the rest of you, samplings of the entire CD can be listened to at www.centaur- music.com ~ So if you are ready fo something other than the woodstove that will turn up the heat, get your hands on this CD. Oh, and Kevin, if you happen to be reading this - you can dip me, flip me, and lick me anytime — I’m ready to blastofil You blow me away.
