They have ambitious plans to promote, unite, and increase awareness of the queer community. R.U.1.2? is proud to announce that they have been elected to the governing board of T the National Association of LGBT Community Centers. Executive Director Christopher Kaufman will serve a three-year tenn on the Board, promoting the work of rural community centers in this national organization. R.U.1.2? is the most rural community center ever elected to the board of the National Association. The Burlington Center will be joining peers from the New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco Community Centers to help fowvard the national community center movement f . _ Current plans for the cen- ter in Burlington include pursuing new programs and growing estab- lished ones. The women’s social group, Womynetplay, has put out its own calendar and has begun seek- ing cosponsors for events. The Vermont Diversity Health Project is preparing for a second edition of their guide to GLBT-friendly health- care and creating programs to train medical professionals. The Center is sponsoring two community mem- bers' attendance at the national True Spirit conference this month. This is a great opportunity for R.U.1.2? to-support FTM transgen- der members of the Center. Upon return from the True Spirit Conference, the center will host a regular transgender social/support group meeting on Friday nights at Headquarters. A glance at the calendar page in this month's O/TM will show the variety of popular education classes that continue at the center. The center is actively using its pro- grams to build bridges into other communities. Rotating the venue of its bimonthly Coffeehouse socials enables R.U.1.2? to create new relationships with businesses like Radio Bean. the host of February's Coffeehouse, and other community centers, like the McClure Multi- Generational Center, host of the April Coffeehouse. The diversity of our com- munity shows in the center's pro- grams as well as its Board of Directors, with the coming_ addition of Ayana Al-Faruk. Al-Faruk is a diversity trainer and a long-time Burlington community organizer. She is currently the Director of the Women of Color Alliance.
