Courses/Classes

V The Women’s Small Business
Program has scholarship funds avail-
able for 1 the fall Start Up class.
Participants who want to attend class
can apply for scholarship funds directly
through WSBP, and/or through the
VSAC Non-Degree Grant Program.
People in the following categories may
be eligible: professionals (medical,
legal, architects, accountants, coun-
selors etc) going into private practice
who need to write a business plan; artist
using their work to start a business;
people starting agricultural businesses;
Burlington residents or Burlington
business owners; low income single
parents. Start UP is a 15-week course
that teaches you to research and write a
business plan, Along the way, you also
test the feasibility of your business,
leam about resources in the community
and develop a greater understanding of
marketing, financial management, and
operations management. The instruc-
tors are experienced women business
owners, the classroom environment is
supportive and you have the chance to
network with local lenders, technical
assistance providers, and other future

VA reunion is being planned in
Newport News, Virginia, for 19-22
October 2000, for the former crew
members of the seven ships of the
DeSoto/Suffolk County Class LSTs.
The ships are the USS DeSoto County,
LST-1171, USS Suffolk County, LST-
1173, USS Grant County, LST-1174,
USS York County, LST-1175,. USS
Graham County, LST-1176, USS
Lorain County, LST-1177, and the USS
Wood County, LST-1178. An effort is
underway to acquire the USS Lorain
County as a memorial by the Ohio War
Memorial, Inc. of Lorain, Ohio. For
